stonechatat sunrise

The European stonechat (Saxicola rubicola) is a fairly common bird in the Netherlands.

I went out very early this morning hoping to photograph roe deer. The weather forecast predicted fog so I was hoping for a distant roe deer standing in a foggy landscape.

Just minutes after walking I found a couple of stonechats singing. It was still a bit dark and I decided to wait for a few moments. After a while the sunrise gave the sky a beautiful red color and I started photographing the singing stonechats in silhouette.

As always with nature photography you have to seize the moment and use opportunities when you encounter them. And for the record; I didn't see any roe deer that morning but still was happy with the result.
