The latebadger

The European badger (Meles meles) is a mammal which is not easily photographed but which has always been high on my "to do list".

In the Belgian Ardennes I had the opportunity to wait near a badger den, hoping to get a glimpse and photo's of this elusive animal.

The badger came out of the den very late that evening which made the conditions to photograph very hard. My shutter speed was very slow and my autofocus struggled very hard to get in focus.

With today's cameras you can go very high with the ISO. So I turned my ISO to 10,000, focused manually and waited for the badger to freeze. Luckily the 1/20-second shutter speed was quick enough to get a decent image.
